2013 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

I am not an early riser.  Not in the slightest.  Today, on a Saturday, no less, I woke up at 6:45 in the morning to walk for a cause.  A mighty cause at that.  On this beautiful October day, T and I participated in the American Cancer Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.  Man, what a feeling to be amidst a sea of pink.  Women, men, boys, and girls walked side-by-side to honor breast cancer survivors, raise awareness about steps we can take to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society lead the fight against this disease with groundbreaking breast cancer research, information and support 24-7, and access to mammograms for women who need them.  Pretty freaking amazing, isn't it?  It is absolutely incredible what can be accomplished when we work together for a common cause.

1./ I have my friend to thank for this great find.  Bath and Body Works' Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin is the best thing since sliced bread.  It doesn't really have a pumpkin scent to it, however, it is refreshing and yummy!  Every-single-night I put some on before going to bed.  Every-single-night my husband says the same thing, "Babe, you smell, so, so, so good."  He does this as he scoots closer to me to reach in for our last kiss goodnight.  And, it is currently on sale.  For $5.50 you should buy at least five; use them as stocking stuffers, your family and friends will love it.

2./  I lied.  Remember when I said that I didn't "believe" in having favorites?  Well, Zoya's Neve nail polish has turned this girl into a believer.  This color is my favorite, hands down, scout's honor.  The photograph is pretty spot-on.  It is one of the most unbelievable shades of blue my eyes have ever seen.  I LOVE IT!  I may try to get away with wearing it every day until forever.  Zoya, my heart belongs to you.

3./ Let's be honest, text messages like these make the world go round.  I mean, seriously, you need a Krizia in your life as well.  Krizia, can I request really awesome texts like this every day?  Every week?  Every month?  At least I know someone reads my nonsense ;)

4./ In case you forgot my birthday is next month.  And this watch is a must have.  Not only is this bad boy absolutely adorable, but 65% of the proceeds will go to Young Survival Coalition.  Young Survival Coalition is a nonprofit organization that provides education, support and outreach for young women with breast cancer.  Basically, this watch is the bomb diggity.  Not only will you be wearing one of the cutest watches made, you will also be supporting a pretty fab organization.  What more can you ask for?  You can find this little gem here.  Friends, I want that exact color and model.  You see, I am so not complicated.

5./  What is that you ask?  It is just one of the most amazing desserts in the continental United States, duh.  It is Kellog's Corn Flakes, Dulce de Leche ice cream, and honey.  Yes, heaven in your mouth.  Don't knock it till you try it.  I'm pretty sure my taste buds look forward to this concoction every evening.  It is beyond delicious.  Weird, sure.  Gross, never.  Fattening, maybe.  I say, "You can eat anything in moderation."  That is my story and I'm stickin' to it!

(Obviously, that is not my bathroom.  But damn, I wish it were.)

The greatest debate in our household is what water temperature constitutes a great shower.  No, seriously, the husband and I argue about this almost on a daily basis.  The only way in my humble opinion to take a proper shower is if the water is scalding.  Yes, you read that right, I like my showers to be hot and steamy.  Oh, you know, one step away from a first degree burn.  If the water doesn't turn my skin tomato red, well, it isn't for me.  That is just the way I roll.

My husband?  Well, he enjoys lukewarm water.  Actually, it is more room temperature water.  I-cannot-stand-that.  He on the other hand finds it perfectly suitable to get into the shower and turn it to almost cold.  Dude, ain't nobody got time fo'dat.  I want my showers to make me feel warm and cozy, not as though we are living without a water heater.  In 2005 after Wilma hit South Florida I went a week without a hot shower (I nearly died).  The thought of washing my hair in icy water made my entire body cringe.  I wanted to cry every time the thought of a shower came to mind.  That whole mind over matter?  Well, that shit didn't work.

Apparently, women prefer taking hotter showers.  Well, this is according to my husband who refuses to cite his source.  I don't believe anything unless there is proof, so, I went ahead and did my own research.  I asked my women friends.  And, surprisingly, the majority preferred to take skin burning showers.  Okay, husband, I'll give you this one.

Which is why I prefer to shower alone.  Saving water?  Apparently not in this house.  Just blame it on my husband who can't get with the program.  Sure, when we were newlyweds it was cute and adorable to take showers together.  We would compromise by starting off with room temperature water and slowly I would turn the knob little by little.   Eventually I'd get it to just the right temperature, epidermis melting.  Immediately my husband would scream something along the lines of, "Damn, that is hot woman!" and leave.  Mission accomplished.  Hey, if you can't handle the heat, get out of the shower!

Let me start off by saying that there has never been a show in the history of all the shows I've ever seen that makes me as mad, and aggravated as 'Pretty Little Liars'.  Ever.  Tonight's Halloween episode was no different.  Did I know I was going to be irritated?  Yes.  Did I watch it anyway?  You bet your socks I did!

Now the question in my mind is still, "IS ALISON DILAURENTIS STILL ALIVE?"  Because, come on now, how in the world did she get from Ravenswood to Rosewood so quickly, without a car.  I mean, for real.  Plus, is she really Ali?  Or could the whole 'twin' thing be an actual possibility?  Have you noticed all the weird twin references?  I have, and it creeps me the 'eff out.  Plus, who was the dead girl found in Alison's backyard, the dead girl at Alison's funeral?  Is this Ali's twin?  Is Ali actually dead and her twin is still alive?  Oh, how I am plagued with a case of the Whys!  Will these questions ever be answered?  Will they?  Will they?  Ugh!

Is Ezra -A?  Or is he just some crazy stalker who dated Alison?  It is all just so incredibly  confusing.  Is Aria -A?  Has she known all along about Ezra and Alison?  There were several moments tonight where I felt like throwing my cell phone at the television.  I mean, the part where Hannah is stuck in the phone booth and you see Alison's face and Ezra, what in the world was that, my friends?  Then all of a sudden poof! they are both gone.  Come on!

Thank you Pretty Little Liars for increasing my anxiety level to the highest it has been in months.  Thank you for dangling the truth in front of us and then just snatching it away.  Thank you for filling my mind with all these what ifs and whys and hows.  It was like having a great day, getting slapped back into reality, and told, "See you in January, bitches."  

And, that is that.  I would love to hear your theories!

A Little Birthday Love.

If  it weren't for photographs we would never remember our first birthday.  Our first birthday.  An important birthday.  One can go as far to say that it is the most important birthday of our life.  That first year outside the mother's womb.  The very fact that we have survived through an entire year in this crazy, crazy world is something to be celebrated.  And celebrate we did.

Yesterday we celebrated the birthday of not one cute munchkin but two (I didn't get a picture with the birthday girl).  The munchkin in the photograph below is a year old.  365 days old!  Isn't he just the cutest, ever?  Look at that precious face.  Yesterday on a beautiful Sunday we celebrated this child's first year of life.  May he celebrate many, many, many more birthdays.  May each passing year of his life be even better than the last one.  

Yesterday we celebrated the beginning of a second year of life.  A second year to grow and learn.  A second year to become even more loved.  A second year to turn into the most adorable little man this world has ever seen.  Happy Birthday, sweet baby!

Hello, lovers!  Sunday we are here again.  This week we have questions that are a little bit more personal, it seems.  Here goes nothing...
/1./ What do you value most in life? Honesty.  In my world, honesty is always the best policy, always.  There is never a situation that merits a lie.  At the end of the day the truth will always be the way to go.

/2./ What do you think is the greatest invention in your life and why?

The greatest invention in my life would have to be my cellphone.  However, only because I believe it is crucial in cases of emergency.  There are times where I wish I could just throw my cellphone in the lake.  The advantages outweigh the disadvantages, definitely.

/3./ What do you think is the secret to a good life?

Good, positive, loving, and healthy relationships with family and friends.  Truthfully, there is nothing better than the love you give and receive.  Oh, and someone to have really great conversations with, because, there is nothing better than intellectual stimulation ;)

/4./ What would you most like to be remembered for when you're gone?

I would like to be remembered as a person who gave love without any expectations.  Most importantly, I would like to be remembered as a positive individual whose experiences influenced others in a positive manner.

/5./ What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?

There are many moments I am proud of.  However, I am going to say that the accomplishment I am most proud of is winning the third grade spelling bee.  I remember my opponent being so disappointed.  His words the second after he lost were, "Man, I can't believe I lost to a girl."  Yup, yes you did ;)

/1./ It takes a lot for me to like a certain hair product.  My hair is incredibly oily and therefore, not all conditioning oils, balms, conditioners leave it looking the way I imagine.  The other day I was searching for the perfect shampoo (I still haven't found it) when I came across Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Deep Conditioning Shine Mask.  I was a little skeptical at first, however, it smells phenomenal.  The scent alone was reason enough to test it out.  And, I actually liked it.  The first thing I did when I got into the shower was wash my hair (twice) and then used the Shine Mask.  I left it on for the duration of my shower.  When I rinsed it out I immediately noticed how soft my hair was.  So far, so good.  I've only used it twice last week, so, we shall see, we shall see.

/2./ During my high school years I was obsessed with Hard Candy glitter eye liner.  Obsessed.  Trips to Sephora made my heart go pitter, patter.  Now you can find Hard Candy cosmetics at Walmart.  Yes, Walmart.  This Hard Candy Fox in A Box color 'Spicy and Sweet' blush is just splendid.  It goes on with just the perfect hint of pink.  In my opinion it works great for work.  Not too much, just perfect.  Oh, and it's six bucks.  You just cannot get better than that my friends, you can't.

/3./  Clinique is currently having a fantastic promotion.  If you spend $25 you get receive a free 8-piece gift.  You read correctly.  8-PIECE GIFT!  Last week during our weekly girl's dinner my friend was kind enough to share this with us.  Of course we could not resist.  So, for one of my purchases I bought Clinique's 'Air Kiss' long last glosswear.  Dude, I have  been the owner of several different glosses of several different brands.  This one is by far in the top five.  The color is a little off in the picture.  It looks so natural which is perfect for those days you want a casual look.  Definitely a must buy.

/4./  I am absolutely loving the once-a-week dinner dates with these two lovely ladies.  Getting to spend some one-on-one time with T and D makes the hectic work-week a little more tolerable.  And, they are awesome.  What more could I ask for?

/5./  I am a sucker for old photos.  On Sunday morning while searching for a photo of my friend F I came across this precious gem.  This photograph was taken on my fourth birthday.  Clearly, my friend F thought it was her birthday as well.  Lucky for her I love her.  And, sharing is caring, right?
